February 5th to March 26th, 2000
Opening reception Saturday, February 5th, 1-6 pm
JUDITH ROUHANI is a Fiber Artist living in Cape Town, South Africa. This exhibit features her exotic Silk Tapestries which unite African patterns and rich colors with beading and fine stitchery. Her Fertility Figures, created with beads and wrapped threads, form contemporary versions of the traditional South African icon. Rouhani has exhibited internationally and works with the South African National Gallery assisting with the conservation of their textiles and their Education Department. She was recently commissioned to create a piece for the South African Embassy in Germany. Rouhani introduced Fibre Art as a course at the University of Cape Town, and has also taught at the Montebello Design Centre and the Frank Joubert Art Centre. She also mentors at the Community Arts Project with people from disadvantaged communities.
