Mwoyo Arts presents a new exhibit titled "Another Song: Paintings and wood block prints by Charles Kamangwana." An extremely versatile Zimbabwean artist, Kamangwana depicts stories of modern African life using vibrant oil colors. He is equally adept at conveying his culture through black and white wood block prints. Formally trained at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Charles Kamangwana has participated in several international exhibitions.
A concurrent exhibit, "Masters of Stone," features internationally renowned, first generation Shona stone sculptors such as David Mutasa and Wilfred Hamadziripi. The exhibit also includes new work by Richard Kambuzuma, Freddy Masarakufa, and Smecky Kagore. Shona Stone Sculpture is a dynamic contemporary art form based on traditional themes and spirit legends of the ancient African culture. Newsweek magazine declares that "Shona sculpture is perhaps the most important new art form to emerge from Africa in this century." (9/87) Early Shona Stone Sculpture collectors include Prince Charles and the Rockefellers.
